Artist Bio

Heather White is a teacher of K-12 visual arts at the Vinalhaven School. Generally speaking she is a self-taught artist who loves exploring new media. Her most recent work has been original printed designs sold as notecards, postcards and prints.

Creative Process

“For the past couple of years I’ve gotten good and lost in digital sketching and drawing, so this was a fun challenge trying to take some of those digital design ideas and fit them into a wooden hexagon box. A square peg, round hole sort of challenge. Although this did not turn out to be a Sailor’s Valentine in the traditional sense, I was able to stay with the nautical theme in this mixed media piece. If you pick up the box and gently place it back down, the little orange rowboat “boings” back-and-forth through the waves. I imagine this piece will find a nice home in some lucky kid’s bedroom.”
